Wildhorse Lake at Steens Mountain

Located in far southeastern Oregon, Steens Mountain is a large fault block mountain so it's not a volcanic peak like many Oregon mountains. Its remote location means it's pretty uncrowded. Wildhorse Lake sits in a bowl with lots of loose lava rock, and is surrounded by a fragile ecosystem. In the distance is the Alvord Desert, a 12-by-7-mile dry lake bed.
